NATIONAL SPORTS DAY

Ever heard of this well our country do celebrate this day to remember and honour the sporting legend 'DHYAN CHAND' (hockey wizard)and the interesting fact is that neither him or this day is remembered (likeTHE WAY he has tobe remembered). And while i was going through some news i came across someone commenting how it went unnoticed.

well i am aware that a hockey competition is conducted to honour the greatest of all ,but in my hometown what i saw was just a hand written board stating aug 29 Dhyan Chand day but nothing else .. why is it like that,
is it pure ignorance or you dont know about him well here is a glimpse of that legendary profile..................

DHYANCHAND

DOB 29-08-1905

JOINED ARMY AT THE AGE OF 16

LAURELS TO THE LEGEND

Gold medal 1928,1932 & 1936 olympics.

Honoured "Padma Bhushan"

GREAT INSTANCE IN 'THE LONG SPAN OF LEGEND'

  • In 1936 olympics he played barefoot against germany and took india to a stunning victory of 7-0 scoring 6 out of 7.

  • In Holland authorities broke his stick to check whether there is any magnet hidden inside.

  • In Japan they thought there is some glue in his stick which keeps the ball attracted.

  • In vienna fans made a statue of him with four hands & stick because they believe noordinary man can play like him.

  • In a long career of 22 years more than any world class player he has scored more than 1000 goals.

  • Though he was a legend he died impecunious and uncared in hospital and he was leaving on a meagre pension.

Its said that he was really unhappy with our performance in montreal olympics (seventh). And he said to a Doctor that indian hockey is dying and then he went to a coma and died in 1979.
WELL WHAT WAS HE TRYING TO SAY, HIS DEATH OR THE DEATH OF HOCKEY EITHER WAY ITS A LOSS TO OUR COUNTRY.

Its really sad that a great figure like him was leading a miserable life and died ,lets not make the same mistake of our fathers .Even if we havent seen his magic lets remember him and celebrate the birthday of a LEGEND

SO GUYS 29TH AUGUST "NATIONAL SPORTS DAY"..
